Our Family...
Our family has owned and loved vizslas since the 1960's. We live in Spokane, Washington, USA, surrounded by wheat fields, basalt bluffs, forests, lakes and rivers. Our vizslas compete with us in a variety of AKC venues as well as doing what they do best... hunting! We hope you enjoy the photos, video, and narrative about our vizslas as you browse through our website.
Basalt Bluffs Vizslas is not a once or twice a year kennel/ breeder of vizslas, however, our female, Curry, is such a special girl we bred her to a very handsome boy - Mickey, with his AKC Championship and Junior Hunter. Check out the Puppies page to see information about both parents, including pedigree and photos.
Puppies were born in the first week of September 2009 and went to their forever homes the end of October 2009.
NOTE: We will not breed again until 2012 or 2013.
The Vizsla Standard
According to the Vizsla Club of America's Vizsla Standard a vizsla is that of a medium-sized, short-coated, hunting dog of distinguished appearance and bearing. Robust but rather
lightly built, the coat is an attractive shaded golden rust. Originating in Hungary, the Vizsla was bred to work in
field, forest and water. Agile and energetic, this is a versatile dog of power, drive and endurance in
the field yet a tractable and affectionate companion in the home. It is strongly emphasized that field conditioned
coats, as well as brawny or sinewy muscular condition and honorable scars indicating a working and hunting dog are
never to be penalized in this dog. The requisite instincts and abilities to maintain a "dual dog" are always to be
fostered and appreciated, never deprecated.
